The individual provides support for special studies and advanced planning; operational communications systems, and ongoing/projected improvements. Performs work toward defined project objectives. As a member of the team, works within general supervisory guidelines and controls. Generally, operates with appreciable latitude for non-reviewed action or decision. May also work independently, or as part of a team. Accomplishes data gathering and analysis in assigned area of responsibility. A working knowledge and/or familiarity with the proper and most current methods of installing information and communications technology (ICT) related cabling within the confines of a commercial building structure. Conduct site surveys, pull wire/cable, and terminate and test copper and optical fiber cable to perform retrofits and upgrades for existing infrastructure. Must be able to distinguish between different colors, possess manual dexterity to complete fine motor tasks, stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, and lift and carry items weighing up to 50lbs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installs fiber optic cable, Cat 5, telephone, and/or variety of cable installation (surveying, labeling, pulling cable to desired locations, dress-in, and termination with appropriate connectors).
- Installs cable tray (routed through overhead drop ceilings, under raised flooring, conducting penetrations, offsets, junctions, rod/strut support, etc. required for installation).
- Installs communication room rack/cabinet (often requiring custom configuration/modification – cutting/drilling deck tile, re-routing existing paneling/cabling).
- Installs wall/floor boxes and associated conduit/flex, faceplates, inserts and labels.
- Builds and installs patch panels.
- Performs troubleshooting, including testing, fault location, and repair of fiber, Cat 6, telephone, etc. cable systems.
- BICSI Installer certification desired. Associate degree in a technical or scientific field desired.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience installing, terminating, and testing and troubleshooting copper and fiber optic cabling.
- Proficient using general hand tools, test equipment and ability to read and interpret installation drawings, plans and specifications.
- Possess the ability to discuss media selection and implications for implementation on the network.
- Make recommendations based on applicable codes, standards and best practices.
- Interpret the job plan and scope of work as well as perform retrofits and upgrades for existing infrastructure.
PREFFERED SKILLS
- BICSI Installer certification desired.
