DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Lead Configuration Management Specialist holds primary responsibility for directing and overseeing all configuration management (CM) operations within NIWC. This encompasses managing and controlling all hardware inventory, documentation, product releases, and software configuration baselines. The Lead acts as the principal authority guiding the Configuration Change Board (CCB), defining, implementing, and enforcing procedures for releasing new products and updates throughout the entire system life cycle.

Crucially, this role serves as the primary liaison between the government, the prime contract Project Manager, and operations within the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC), ensuring seamless communication and alignment of mission objectives across all parties. Serving as the front face of the Combined Test Bed, the Lead is responsible for overseeing personnel and ensuring they meet all required criteria, clearances, and security protocols to enter and operate within the lab environment.

Additionally, the Lead is responsible for overseeing shift schedules and must remain highly flexible to cover shifts on short notice in the event of personnel call-outs, ensuring continuous and uninterrupted operational support.

This individual also provides strategic guidance for change management, requirements management (RM), and the overall Quality Management System (QMS). The Lead coordinates and oversees complex engineering modifications, including Field Changes (FC) and Engineering Changes (EC), while ensuring proper integration with repair, restoration, overhaul, and testing phases. Given the secure nature of the operational environment, this role demands rigorous attention to detail when working with, tracking, and safeguarding classified media.


REQUIRED SKILLS/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
  • Core Experience: Minimum of five to seven years of professional experience in configuration management, including team leadership or project management.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CM database systems.
  • Operational Skills: Expert scheduling, task coordination, complex document control, and enterprise records management.
  • Communication: Advanced technical writing, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and lead cross-functional teams effectively across government and contractor lines.

This position is required to have and maintain a Secret US DoD security clearance.

PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, IT, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced Experience: Seven or more years of dedicated CM experience within a defense, engineering, or aerospace environment (specifically within or supporting NIWC operations is highly desired).
  • Certifications: Professional Configuration Management certification (e.g., NDIA, CMPIC, or equivalent).

REMARKS
The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. It is critical that this individual can interface effectively with all levels of technical staff, executive management, government representatives, and external stakeholders to drive CM initiatives.

Compensation: $35 - $40 an hour.
Compensation for positions at Centurum vary depending on a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, location, responsibilities, skill set, and level of experience.
